HARRY GETHIN
YOUTH ENGAGEMENT LEAD
IT ALL STARTED WHEN…
Worked in retail for 2 years
Completed a sports coaching apprenticeship with Future Stars where I gained a Level 3 DPESS qualification, whilst learning on the job in schools. The qualification means I am able to coach a huge number of sports
Became a head coach and was then able to lead sports programmes in schools. I also took on the rota lead, meaning I could cover sickness and holidays and communicate directly with schools
Throughout this training, I began the process of becoming a mentor and went from shadowing other mentors to working with my own young people
Took a year out and travelled, taking part in different volunteering activities, including supporting a school’s activity day in Bali and a book collection programme
Gained a FA Level 1 coaching badge, working for South Gloucestershire Development Centre and after working alongside another coach for 6 months, took on my own U11 team coaching
Have worked for Youth 8 for the last 15 months where I have undertaken awareness training on Adverse Childhood Experiences – essential training for not only our work, but also for the Kendleshire Kids Foundation
Have played football since the age of 6 but have always had a keen interest in all sports
Always driven to challenge myself, especially in sports, recently led me to take up golf, amongst other colleagues in the Kendleshire Kids Foundation team
Strive Youth Engagement Ltd founder and director from 2022
