The Kendleshire Kids Foundation News - May 2021.

Hello and welcome...

After the interruptions at the start of the year, we have been in full swing with our sessions. No doubt, many of you have been finding more normality in your every day lives and long may it continue!

Once again, we are pleased to report that we have received further funding for our programme – this time from WESPORT (West of England Sport Trust). We have been working with WESPORT for some time and taking part in workshops with them. With lockdowns lifted, we have been very pleased to also welcome Ruth Glanville and Laura Rudland on site with us. Laura interviewed Emma Brown with regard to a focus on female lead deliverers, ahead of the national ‘This Girl Can’ week, with a focus on recovering from the pandemic. Thanks to Emma for taking part in this and sharing her work.

Dr Haydn Morgan is continuing his preparation for our research project and is now becoming a regular visitor on site!

Our Foundation’s charity golf day will take place on Thursday 30th September and full details will be available shortly but this will be open to businesses or employers, club members, non – members and any of our partners and supporters so please do think about getting involved with this, with many great prizes on offer!

Junior Kendleshire Club Captain, Shannon Jones, has already been raising funds for us from her first charity event so many thanks to her and mum, Lynette, for their hard work. There are more events to come across the rest of the year from Shannon.

We will soon be welcoming Ash Harris (Golf Professional)on site to help us with further access developments for disabled golfers. Since his launch of ‘Enable Golf’ he has helped to raise awareness and grow opportunities for disabled golfers so we are very excited to have this opportunity of working with him.

At the end of June we will be celebrating 3 years of our great work supporting young people. Where has that time gone?

As always, don’t forget to check out our website and social media platforms for more updates and developments!

Best wishes to you all as we head into those great summer days and evenings. Enjoy them while you can!

CEO - Dawn Ward

FUNDRAISING

Matt Holway (one of the junior member’s dad at The Kendleshire Golf Club ) is raising money for the Kendleshire Kids Foundation. He has been growing his hair since the start of lockdown 1 and is aiming to shave it off around 3rd July, as an event at the club (all being well with restrictions).

COSSINGTON PARK

We have organised our first off- site trip to a historical family estate in Somerset. Our young people will be spending a whole day taking part in activities to support learning and work experience. They are really looking forward to the trip! Cossington Park offers accommodation but are also looking to offer support for the benefit of young people. We are delighted to be helping them with this development

UNIVERSITY OF BATH RESEARCH PROJECT

Dr Haydn Morgan has made contact with many of our parents in preparation for full consent for our research project.

ALL ABOUT US

The Kendleshire Kids Foundation’s programme is about using golf for the development of young people, ‘Golf for Good’, who have experienced adversity and trauma and to support them in building resilience for the future and improve physical health. We are the first ‘trauma responsive’ #SportForGood and #GolfForGood charity in the world.

Empowering young people by building resilience, self- esteem, encouraging teamwork and teaching life skills are all important for their future outcomes. We use The Kendleshire Golf Club’s facilities, with the support of our specialist PGA golf coaches and one to one mentoring support through our associated company, Youth8, whose specialist workers use a person-centred, trauma responsive approach, as trusted adults, understanding how important this is for positive future outcomes.

The young people are provided with mentoring, golf coaching, golf equipment, food and drink. They also have opportunities to take part in work experience and online learning to gain certificates towards various life skills and future employment and are rewarded in various ways for their commitment to the programme. This all comes free of charge for their referring organisations or families.

To be part of the programme, referrals are accepted from schools or other avenues and there is no time restriction for them to be part of this great cause.

Continual monitoring and assessment, using our own taylor made packages for both mentoring and golf, is carried out to demonstrate the impact of the programme and to share learning across our community. All workers and volunteers hold the relevant enhanced DBS certificates and certificates for safeguarding, child protection and ACE Awareness training. Many have also undertaken various mental health training. Nearly all members of our team are highly experienced in working with children and young people and many are highly qualified in their respective fields.

LAPTOPS NEEDED If anyone is disposing of, or replacing their laptops, please consider donating them to us to support our online work and work experience. Contact Dawn Ward on info@kendleshirekidsfoundation.org if you can help!

Our ‘Trauma Responsive’ Pledge Commitment

What makes us “Trauma Responsive”?

1. All staff and volunteers hold purposefully related lived, learnt and qualified experience

2. Long-term provision – for our young people, we will make this available for lifelong support

3. When we hold group sessions, we only have safe, supportive and small groups

4. Every one of the young people we work with will have ongoing, sustainable access to a mentor, for one-to-one support, according to their needs

Our work so far...

Here are some of our young people enjoying their golf coaching sessions with two of our professional teaching staff, Tom and Emma, providing an insight into what our sessions look like. The Kendleshire clubhouse is also looking glorious. This is a facility we are privileged to be able to use to support our young people.
